I've been meaning to share something with you for a while now. For those of you that follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you will know about this already, but I can now finally share it here on my blog too: my feature shoots in the August/September issue of Food and Travel magazine.
It was back in mid-2011 that I was asked by the art director of Food and Travel magazine if I would like to shoot their Transylvania Gourmet Traveller feature for them. At the time, I really didn't know much about Transylvania except for the fact that it was in Romania and that it was famous for vampires. Saying I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. What I discovered about Transylvania couldn’t have been further from what I expected, and made me fall wholeheartedly in love with the country.
Together with the lovely writer, Rosemary Barron, we set out in October last year for our Transylvanian adventure. So you can see why I said I’ve been meaning to share this with you for so long – nearly a year since I shot this feature! What impressed me the most about Transylvania were the warm-hearted people, their love of good company and especially their approach to good food. I think Rosemary says it best in the article: '...there's no talk of local, sustainable or organic food systems. These are taken for granted.'
To read the full article and see all the images of this feature as it appears in the magazine, I’ve put the article into an Issuu link here and below so that you can flip through it in true magazine style. Click ‘Expand’ to view it in full screen mode, and you can also click on any of the images below for a slightly larger view.
In the same issue (last three images below), you’ll also find my feature shoot of the Basque Country, which I visited for 5 days last month together with the equally lovely writer, Kate Hawkings. It appears in the magazine as a two page article for a Top 10 of the Basque Country, but I have to say I experienced so much more. I have hundreds more images from the Basque Country, and I’d love to do a whole blog post about it as it is such a beautiful part of Spain, with an amazing food culture, creative & fun people, stunning architecture, to name just a few things.
And finally, apologies for not posting here for so long, I’m currently in the middle of a huge cookbook shoot, while shooting a few magazine features in between, including more for Food and Travel, and I only just realized I hadn’t published a blog post in so long. More recipe posts to come soon, I promise. And I’ll share more details of the above shoots as soon as I can. Stay tuned.
